| Designer Notes |
| Perhaps the most blatant example of Republican Army's infalted ego is the production of the Fer-de-Lance. The Fer-de-Lance was designed for one purpose: to look impressive and thereby raise morale after the exhausting War of the Alliance. Each Fer-de-Lance is hand-crafted for its pilot by a team of "armorers" employed by the Gear's manufacturers. Beautiful styling is combined with state-of-the-art technology to create one of the most imposing Gear's ever built. Although the Rucker RF-12 rifle was chosen primarily for its aesthetics, few deny that it is a high-quality Gear rifle. An expensive guided missile system was installed instead of the typical Gear rocket pod in order to reduce the odds of a stray rocket damage to the historical landmarks that the Fer-de-Lance protect. The VU-14 vibrosaber sported by these Gears is very elegant and ornate, as befits their duties. Despite being a fine ceremonial guard Gear, the Fer-de-Lance's high maintenance requirements make it useful as a real battlefield unit. As one anonymous tech said, "She might look like the world's toughest war-horse, but she's just a prissy show pony at heart!" |
